last day in europe.. so sad!!

Time of a lifetime wow. i dont even know where i could possibly start. Im so sad to leave. i hate good-byes SO much.. last time i was like this, i was leaving capes..sort of a sinking feeling i think. Last night we got to Frankfurt and met up with our German budd, Yan for one last time. ( Alex and Yan...german guys we met 3 times through the trip also in Barcelona and Lisboa..guys coolest ever!! ) in my mind that was the last thing to look forward to, the ending marker..seeing him, and now its gone. It was so great though..went out for dinner and walked around the river... then He took us out up on this terrace roof up high and it was the most amazing view of the sky-rises and colourful city at night. When we split i lost it.. this might be more sad than capes, cause who knows when ill ever see them again. ahhhhh! ohh man. now its just the waiting till we fly home. it will be the longest day.. haha, we leave here and get back before we left.. kind of..ya..haha. interesting. 10 hour flight..me and Dallas have a date.- i love that music at times right now. sorry, oh man, this is getting depressing. if your still reading this...thanks for listening! your a trooper. lol. nah, i know ill be fine once im home. theres definaely a lot of look forward to. ok..thats it thats all.. see ya soon!!! stay tuned for pictures :-)

Germany! We are still Sarahs place for one more day in Stuttgart. Its been a grande time chillin´ with her and Patrick! They are quite the entertaining tour guides. We´ve ate a TON of amazing german foods and bought a lot of chocolate. We went to the Ritter Sport chocolate factory and spent way too much money..but im sure everyone can appreciate that in a few days! haha..mmm ya! Tonight we will celebrate Sarahs birthday ( shhh its a surprise!).. and have a bit of an interpretive dance party. ( if you know Patrick, you know hes got quite the moves, and hes been teaching us so we can perform tonight. hahaha. its gonna be on video-- cant wait. OK..and heres a few more pics of the guys we stayed with in Munchen...

Sheri's world, PARTY TIME

haha. Well, detoured once again and ended up in Switzerland for easter. Vienna was the original idea, but I think this is way better any day. We're in this little place called Interlaken, probably the most beautiful place you've ever seen no word of a lie. We've been sitting in the sun surrounded by the amazing mountains. It reminds me so much of Canada, only not, at the same time. Yesterday we rented Kajaks and went out on the lake all day, and got a little colour. haha.. actually Steph and Starr got it bad. (I need to put some pics on here.. but dont worry in a week, ill have more than enough time to do that.) Super good times. aww man, we have the best times together you dont even know. Starr and I take on the characters of Lloyd and Harry( ya, dumb and dumber..) when we're together. what a gong show. man i will miss this. the past couple days have been a little sad thinking wen fly home in a week. SO ^...to change up the tune a bit, we decided to do something a little crazy.. PARA-GLIDING in the Alps!! the guys are picking us up at 3 , im SO excited..(no worries mom, its tandam :) and on that note.. i gotta header. xoxox

Munchen

Hey! We are back in Germany now!.. nice to be back in a country with a little more normal easter traditions. haha whoa..very strange, pretty funny... Anyway, yeah we are staying with two guys in Ottenhofn right outside of Munic. They each have their own place and then also a separate flat they call the 'party house' where they party i guess..lol. But for the weeks its all ours and its been great. These guys are brothers and their Dad is living in BC, so thats Stephs connection. He´s a famous skier in Germany, and they run a ski resort, his sons are snowboard and ski instuctors. So during the winter they run that and in the off season they entertain people like us and take it easy. what a life... i think thats what i will do when im home..open a resort and ski and have fun. lol. anyway..HAPPY EASTER. thx for your comments :)

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Ok.. maybe I will write a little or i might have a few anxious people on my hands! haha. just kiddin. So yeah, i have WAY to much to catch up on from last time.. we hit Paris, Holland - leiden and amsterdam, Berlin, mmm... i dont remember what else. Its been really great. In Amsterdam we hooked up with Dan.b and Rebeccah from capes and that was some quality times.. um, then in Berlin we met up with another friend of ours again that goes back to Lisboa and Barcelona, so that was super sweet too, but then it hit me after saying goodbye to him, that Im realllly gonna miss these people we met along the way, its not like we can just hop over and see each other anytime. mm yeah, its really sad actually, but a lot of good memories. I loved Berlin, its in the top 3 for sure. Its really huge, which is strange cause Ive never wanted to be in a bit city like that, but I could definately see myself living there. Anyway!...We arrived in Praha last night, and funny story, well sort of... yesterday when we got off the train, right outside the station, there were these 2 guys and they had a big long whip made out of long tree branches tied together with something on the end, and when we walked by they just started whipping us with it! And i was just sorta shocked, like how do you respond to that?! like for no reason, just totally random! and it really hurt! ha.. so i started yelling at them, but then i think it didnt help because they dont speak english at all... and they just kept following us and hitting us and going off in czech, ( .. a little strung out ) so we took off and they left us alone. but it was ya... weird. not so great of a first impression i think! ha, anyway, so we just went to bed pretty much after that cause we were so tired. Our hostel is a little outside the city, so we havent taken anything in yet, but Im sure its amazing cause people cant stop telling us how beautiful it is. Im excited.. anyway im out! taker easy :)

HeY! I saw the movie, did the tour and the whole shabamm ( arnt you proud?! ) lol...now im afraid i´ll have the songs going through my head till I leave this place..over and over and over. EXCELLENT! It was great dont get me wrong, and the views-breathtaking, but as Starr said, probably the most `dorky´thing we´ve done yet. haha, us and 500 japanese student riding up and down the mountains singing to the soundtrack and stopping at the houses they filmed at, the church, bridge, gardens...imagine it.
AND now I feel I´ve made a major life accomplishment - i had no idea watching this movie would fulfill all my dreams. haha. ohhh dear!
Moving off that..umm, tomorro we´re going to stay with Stephs friend Mathias in a city on the very west part of Austria...then Zurich( switz.) , Ostrava ( czech rep.) , and into Germany...actually the majority of the trip we will be just hooking up with friends from school and home, and family. so im pretty stoked! life is good. i hope on their comp. i can get pictures on here. i think so.. only now i have wayy to many to pick from, cause i dont even remember the last ones i put up!

PS...HI to everyone @ home visiting my house..aww i miss you...i hate when i feel like im missing out on a party, and we all know auntie joan, you are the life of a party. a good one! :) haha...not that i dont want to be here, but you know.. i just wish i was in on stuff. gah! another side note..oh man, i have the biggest addiction to german chocolate i think..dont you worry ill stock up before i leave.. and you know what else..( Phil, I eat my words!).. i fell in love with coffee here. sick. i still cant believe im saying this...

the hills are alive...

Yes, we have arrived in Salzburg! Apparently this is where they filmed the sound of music movie..which i have never seen actually, but i am informed ill see it tmro and then take a 4 hour tour of the places they made it. The train ride was incredible, it kind of reminds me of B.C., only way, um.. cuter. haha. Venice was pretty unique too, loved it. super romantic..only one thing missing in this picture... hmm. anyway, things to do, places to go, ppl to meet!.. see ya :)

Sunday, March 11, 2007

I cant believe how fast things are going! Ive been gone 8 weeks and only 4 more to go! Crazy.. kind of sad too. We spent an extra day in Athens, loved it, love greek food, people are awesome, weather is gorgeous and i cant complain. Yesterday we went out hiking and to these mineral hot springs in the cliffs, only i was a little disappointed, cause i thot we could jump off them, but no, we couldnt..Anyway, so im swimming around and all the sudden i realize the seaweed moving under my feet isnt seaweed at all, its all these little schools of fishes, and by fish i mean minnows, but they were big! Ahhh, i freaked myself out so bad I couldnt stay in. But it was fun while it lasted. haha then we came back into the city and went dancing, and later walking back home, we found this random trail that went up around the acropolis and caught an amazing view of the city at night! Wow, Ill miss that place. Now im sitting on a 32 hour long ferry to Venice, so i got some time to kill...excellent... Ill be back later im sure :)

reality check..where am i?!

Athens backpackers-where we are staying at. its a super cool hostel with a lot of great people, theres a big balcony and bar on the top of the roof overlooking the Acropolis and city lights at night! Today we went up to the Acropolis and saw the Parthenon and everything. Its sunny and hot, which is not too unusual.. Athens is HUGE. lots of shopping, hikes..we want to make it up to Mars Hill tmro, im not sure if that will happen..cause we are also doing a walking tour all over with a guide. but it would be cool to be there i think, and maybe read acts 17 while we're up there! Theres so many places ppl keep telling us we need to go to and see!..its fun to be able to be so flexible with our schedule that way. I gotta run. take care! :)

Corfu adventures!

Hey! so i have 5 mins left to write a quick blog and what can i say..Greece is beautiful! The last 3 days have been a really great break from the rest of the trip. This is like, kick-back, relax, where most of it is, we are the tourists in the cities..which is also awesome too, but it can get tiring.good for a change..anyway, done a lot of quading around on the island, met some cool ppl from the states, swam in the sea..got a tan! haha..its been like 25+ deg here..lots of outside time chillin in the sun..ok..i gotta write more later. heading to athens on the night ferry here :)

Roma..I came. I saw. I conquered!

haha. WOW. did i say Florence was my favorite city so far?..i think not. Its pretty cool, but its got nothing on Rome. Rome is incredible, it goes far above and beyond a persons expectations. So extravagent, detailed, and SO much history.
Our first day here we got in on a guided tour of the Colosseum, VERY interesting..then we also got in to the Roman forum ( the whole ancient city area, with all the ruins...emporors palaces, etc..) and Pallestine Hill on a guided tour. I feel like i learned enough history for a lifetime in one day, but at the same time i know it was barly the surface of anything! We also got to tour around and be in the very jail room that they kept Paul and Peter prisnor in, in Rome. You can even see their grafiti, dating way back to then..whatever time that was, i cant really remember dates, but its all there, and its all documented. It was SO cool! Only a part of the jail is left, but it is the oldest jail in Rome remaining. The place where they kept them is not a lot taller than my head, and incredibly dark and sick. But its really cool, they had documented that there was a flood while they were kept there, and the water came up through the hole in the ground, so they had no where to go and were going to drown, but then the couple roman gaurds there let them out because of the impact of their faith and Paul and Peter baptized them. Incredible, yeah, it was cool to think that they were there, and here we were standing in the same place YEARS later! Anyway...i could go on forever, but i wont..We also got into the Sistine Chapel today. VERY cool...absolutely insane. You just have to be there to fully get the appreciation for it i think, the entire building is painted, and its huge, and just to think that Michael Angelo painted it all himself..ahhh crazy! I wanted to get pics, but no cameras aloud or anything. theres a million security gaurds in there. however, i did manage to record a quick 4 sec video of the paintings before a security man saw my camera out and started yelling at me.. haha, i think you can actually hear him in it..its funny. The whole museum in the Vaitican there - they said if you were to spend only a single minute at each painting, you would be there for 14 years! imagine!!
Anyway, Id like to sum this up and say ROME is a place EVERYONE needs to see at least once. I know ill be back someday. I love it!
Tomorro we're heading to Corfu, an island off of Greece, and staying at the pink palace..should be fun, and then over to Athens...got a long day of travelling all day by train tmro and then all night by ferry.. so im out! :)

BY the way, very sad sad news, but no more pictures i think, my camera died the first night we got to Rome..and i just bought it dangit! i dont know what the deal is.. but at least i can hopefully get it fixed when im home. just a little unfortunate future-europe-picture-wise.

Art Art Art

Today we spent pretty much all day seeing the Uffizzi Museum of Art and Sculptures. We got there before it even opened and still waited over two hours to get in. Then they put you through security, take your liquids and all that, just like when you fly..its crazy! We spent a good three hours looking around, they have Di Vinci, Micheal Angelo, Rembrant...everything! ..some paintings as big as a theatre screen, its insane. Seriously, a person could spend so long in there, we went through it at a pretty quick pace and it was overwhelming. Its almost too bad that there is SO much there, because by the end of it, all the paintings seem to mesh together and they dont seem as great. It takes away from the individuality or uniqueness of each peice and by the end I was so bored.. haha.. its too much. I cant imagine the Louvre in Paris, Im gonna have to phsyc myself out for that one. Then we went out for dinner and bartered around in all the markets, it was a great time and i spent way too much. We all got these little knock-off sunglasses, and they are so hot. haha.. and it was halarious, cause Im sure theyre all just selling them illegally. They're all set up on these little fold-up tables and they have like 1 guy at the table, and 4 lookin out..and as soon as police walk down the street they instantly pack it in and take off and hide..all in about 3 seconds. It was so funny, i found the sweetest pair ever and i was so excited.. and then i go to grab my cash and by the time i look up, the entire strip of these guys and their stuff, gone. theyre so quick...anyway, goodtimes! Now we're heading out to a classical concert and im stoked .. something I'd probably never hit up unless I was here, but just because I am, Im sure it'll be good. Ciao!

Italia

...Loving Italy and have been here for about a week now. We started out in Cinque Terre, which is this incredible little relaxation holiday destination. Its 9 km of 5 little connected towns in the mountains right along the bright green Med. Sea. We spent 2 nights, and did a lot of hiking in these trails that connect all the little towns. It took us about 4 hours to hike through it all, some of it was pretty hardcore, but a lot of fun. I really gotta get pics on here and youd see what i mean. Its straight up and down curves..through this forest, but not really a forest, its more like how you would picture Peru or something.
Ohh man, and we stayed in Monorosso in this amazing appartment! We were getting pretty frustrated wandering around cause we didnt book any hostels ahead of time and everything ( if there was anything ) was either full or not open, under construction.. and none of us can speak Italian so its pretty difficult to even get directions or help.. but then this we ran into this random lady who owns a store, and happens to own an appartment as well, and so she showed it to us and seriously, it was unreal, sooo nice and it was huge, and she gave us a really good deal. God definately worked out incredible details there! Anyway, the next day we jumped on a train, stopped in Pisa and saw the tower, took a lot of pictures, and jumped back on the train on the way to Florence, only we never made it to Florence, haha...we got on the wrong train, had a nice little detour, and came back and started all over. So it was pretty much a waste of a day, but it was funny. Finally we did maker here though, late at night, and of course everything is full again, so we wander around for forever with our packs and finally opt for another hotel, which is alright, but its not as easy to meet people, which is a little unfortunate. All that aside, Florence could possibly be my favorite city.. or one of, so far. Its hard to say cause every place is so different. Its really classy and full of art. And at nights theres concerts and live music..lots going on. Tomorro is the last day here, and on the 25th we go to Rome.. we hope.. this just gets funnier, because things never seem to work out for us...After a few times now of not booking places and not getting in anywhere, we decided to be smart and do it ahead. today we go to the train stat. to find that the day we booked our hostel for is the day that the trains go on strike! ..it seems we cant win. ha...who knows, one way or another...ok, i should get goin, i will try my best to get fotos on here soon!

Im writing in the colour of the ocean here!! ohh man :)

Happy Birthday DAD!! Hope you are having a Fabulous time being 46. haha, just thought Id tell you all to check out Starr and Stephs blog as well, cause I forgot to mention a lot about Nimes and everything else. There is way too much to mention really, so yeah, get it from a few different view points...tha'd be cool. taker easy!

NICE!

Whoa! Nice is a party!! We changed up the plans a little and went further on past Marseille to Nice, close to the Italian Riviera. We managed to come at the perfect time, cause its right in the middle of their 3 week long 'Carnival de Nice'. Let me tell ya, they do it up crazy here, night and day energy and lights, parades, music..right along the ocean. Its so great, its been rainy here, but still very warm and everyone carrys on like nothings coming down. haha..then we went down right out on the ocean, starr and I took off our shoes and stuff and went in, got a little more wet than we wanted, from a bigger wave, and everyone was laughing cause the water is super cold right now, and no one else was coming close to it. Steph was a little smarter maybe, she just took pics, but then we went out on this point of rocks that stuck way out, and Steph stood on the edge of it, and was lookin' out when this massive wave came out of no where and swallowed her up, hahaha, no, not quite, but she got pretty drenchd all over, and it was halarious. ok... ya im sure this doesnt sound near as funny on here as it does in my head right now, but we got video action of it, so you can all see that later! Anyway, so we're here for another couple days and then into Italy starting out in Pisa, and Im soooo excited for this...
Sry no pics, but we're lucky to even get a comp. here, or a hostel even for that matter! haha, Theres pretty much no hostels in France it seems. We were staying in a hotel the last couple days in Toulouse. I mean, its nice and all, but not so nice for the budget! haha. France is a little outrageous that way, I mean, I ran out of contact sol. the other day and went to pick some up, and well, its all $20-$30 CAD, for one little bottle!. its nuts, but its all good. We got a sweet place in Nice now, and we're having a ball. Hope you guys are all doin' well. I wish you could be here!!
xoxo

Sunday, February 11, 2007

Ok..hmm, i just lost my write-up twice now for Barcelona and Andorra here, and im gonna snap.. its definately all the computers fault and I am very angry, and my pictures wont load either, Gah! So I'll try and catch up on this later. We leave for France tmro..rather excited i must say! xoxo

Monday, February 5, 2007

HEY!.. so we're hanging out in Madrid for a few extra days. The plan was to move along to Barcelona today and meet up with some buddies, but no big deal, its definately not a bad thing to be stuck with Brent and Elaine! haha..
I guess i haven't been out as much as Id like lately, but Ive had a lot of time to catch up on sleep and journals, emails... Yesterday I saw a doctor, actually he came TO our house here! Let me tell ya if theres a place to be sick, this is it! I guess I picked up some kind of viral infection along the way, and Im not supposed to be travelling around for at least 48 hours, its hasnt been overly pleasant or anything, but thats life, and Im still in europe :) If this clears up a bit more, then maybe we can get on our way earlier, who knows! Until then, I will continue to enjoy myself in good company!

Spain...

Spain has been pretty great I must say. There is beautiful mountain ranges everywhere, and its been quite warm, not quite like Portugal, but similar. It kind of reminds me of Colorado actually.. Anyway, the last few days we've seen so much. Elaine took us out to Sogovia and Pedraza yesterday. Theyre these little walled cities built up on a hill, about an hour and a halfish-out of Madrid. Really interesting as theres some roman ruins around up there and castels and things. Everything is sooo old! So much history in all these places. We went out for 'tapas' while we were there too.. thats just kind of like the spanish 'snack'. we all shared a baby lamb, which is one of their specialty dishes. It was interesting, reminds me a little of Pork only a more wild taste to it. We also tried Iberical Ham, and basically its a big pig leg. Another spanish favorite. These things are everywhere, and just hanging around in windows and restuarants. they have the whole hoof and hair on it still and theyre cured, so they last for years. Brent and Elaine have on here at their place, so they cut some off for us yesterday (note the pic), and its sort of like beef jerky, only ham. Not so appealing to have sitting around i think, but its not bad! These things are worth quite a bit too, for eaxmple Brent said he got it for a gift, but normally it would cost around $600... for one pig leg! haha.. i was amazed. Spains probably got the most different culture we've hit so far as far as foods and traditions and history. And their meals, so funny- Lunch at 2-3pm, dinner at 9-10 pm and then in the middle, they close down everything for a siesta. like their work, restaurants and stores..Restaurants wouldnt even open again till 8:30pm! Its weird to adjust to that. but its cool! I find myself eating a lot more than normal, since I get hungry at normal meal times, and then I eat again at theirs. haha..its great! Madrids been a lot of fun, its Spains capital, and biggest city. And to compare with Canada, Spain is bigger, ppl wise, than all of Canada combined and then some! Anyway, i gotta run for a while. We are heading out with Brent and Elaine tonight, and Im looking forward to it! They have been SO amazing, so much fun, and its SO nice to see Spain this way, because they know all the things to see and do around here, and they've given us a real taste of the culture, which we could have never got otherwise. Its so nice to not have to take all our little maps out with us and get lost for once. haha.. yeah its been a lot of fun!

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

yay! my pictures worked finally! im so excited.. some of em are sorta small.. but you can click on em' and make it show up big. mmm so the really jungle-y, lush pics are of Sintra. the city on the river at night was our tour in Porto.. and then theres some others of friends in Lisboa and our hostel.. the gateway pic is the originally built entrance for the city of Lisboa..right thru here was our hostel..

I (heart) Portugal!!

Finally made it to Spain this morning, after a very looong, night train..without going into details, Ill just say Im happy to be here! haha..stories for another time.
Starr's got some friends here In Madrid now who are putting us up in their home..its like a 5 star hotel and then some..these guys are amazing..so incredibly generous and theyre taking us out everywhere and around, doing our laundry..cooking..everything! haha..its a nice change to stay in a home for sure. Hostels have been SO much fun though too, mainly just meeting so many ppl from all over, i love it! Our last one in Lisboa, Portugal was SO great. We stayed a little longer than planned cause it was goodtimes and every day was so packed with stuff its hard to backtrack on it all. One day we did a day trip to Sintra, which is a town 45 mins out of Lisboa, and its the cutest little place Ive ever seen! for real..and so gorgeous! Portugal was nothing but sunshine, Id call it the european tropics.. lots of palm trees, waterfalls, lush green everything, but its got castles and little caves and stuff in the mix too, cobblestone streets that have artwork built into them. Its just got so much character. They also have these little Piriquita pastry shops all over that their famous for.. and seriously they are irresistable! haha I have had my share of them..it kind of fills the gap for the lack of cheesecake! (pretty sure this is the longest ive gone without it, and yeah, its been like a month!.. starr and steph are making me wait till valentines when we're goin out and doing it all up...and they promised me cheesecake.. so im holding out! lol) And, the best thing of all, shopping!.. its SO cheap there. so dirt cheap. I ditched my towel and a few other things to make room in my pack for some new clothes! YAY..Its hard to leave each place we go, but then the next is always just as good, but in a completely different way. A few of the guys we met in Lisboa, we are hookin' up with again next week in Barcelona, where theyre going to school, so im lookin forward to it! We cooked them a fancy little dinner and bought roses and everything for them one night. we ate with chop sticks..it was so much fun..and it kind of came up from a joke we had going i guess..
After Lisboa we went to Porto for 2 nights. Clare, another girl we met in Lisboa decided to come along with us, and let me tell ya the four of us spent some quality goodtimes! Portos also got a lot to offer. second biggest city in Portugal. We did a river tour of the city on this sweet boat, and also a tour of the Croft Winery, where they Produce 'Port'... which was interesting although not so much to me, ha, since i hate even the smell of wine..sick! Anyway...ill get outta here now. this is getting too long... but check these pics out...Its Lisboa, Sintra and Porto.. PORTUGAL!

sunshine sweet sunshine~

'...the ocean looks like a thousand diamonds, strewn across the blue plain, i lean against the wind, pretend that i am weightless, and in this moment i am happy- HAPPY, i wish you were here...'

WOW..we just got back from a tour of the west coast in Ireland...and let me say there is few things more beautiful! Its day 7 of week one, and that was definately the cherry on top of an amazing week..my highlight! We walked through caves with little waterfalls, and drove through the scenic countryside, checked some castles ( of which there is SO many) and the best of all - hiked up to the top of the Moher Cliffs. They rise about 750 ft above the crashing ocean under them. ( nope..sure didnt start off from zero ft., haha) and well, honestly, to say that it was absolutely incredible is an understatement. I've never seen anything like it, but even still, Im more enthralled with the God who created them, and amazed still more, that He lives in me!..If this earth, in all its beauty can be so intense, I can't wait for eternity! Anyway, sorta sad to be takin' off tmro, but onward to Portugal! lol...we fly out Tuesday morning, early- wayyy to early, so we'll just hang out in the airport tmro night til' our flight to Lisbon! im out. taker easy!
